Polka Dots

Racoons and crows gobbled up this lawn, leaving a mess. The owner asked for a low maintenance replacement, assuming this meant a renovated lawn. We suggested turning the lawn into a low maintenance garden would truly be less maintenance. The owner agreed, and left us to design with one stipulation: the garden could not look like a typical garden.

So what do you do with a garden surrounding a house painted with red polka dots? Play on the circle theme, of course. And avoid pinks. The grasses swirl around the yellow Magnolia 'Elizabeth.' Native ferns and shrubs border the river bed of Pratia. A rock artist arranged the rocks which slowly appear in winter as the surrounding Pratia settles for the season. A border of Lavender brushes anyone strolling down the path.
