Ken Spencer Science Park Gardens

We are very pleased with the improved health of the Science World gardens over the past six years since we started there. We were initially asked to weed, prune, and do a general clean up of the gardens in Ken Spencer Science Park. Once we had proven ourselves as knowledgeable gardeners, we were asked to take care of all the Science World gardens, including Ken Spencer Science Park (KSSP), Garbasaurus bed, and the rooftop garden.
Initially, we found no life in the gardens at all. The plants were living, but there were no beetles, worms, butterflies, centipedes, or sow bugs. We identified the soil needed to be enlivened, and we added healthy compost. We also began mulching with everything we could find. We left leaves; we left tree prunings; we even left picked weeds. Now we can proudly say the soil has worms and beetles and centipedes. The resident Redwing Blackbirds forage for insects in the soil, and the resident Hummingbird gobbles up flying insects.
