ORGANICALLY DESIGNING YOUR OUTDOOR LIVING ENVIRONMENT
The Cultivated Gardeners are Barb Bancroft and Lisa Atkins, both avid organic gardeners. We specialize in designing, renovating and maintaining gardens organically. We find gardens are lusher, healthier and easier when they are treated as a living, breathing organic being.
DESIGN
The Cultivated Gardeners specialize in ecological landscape designs. This means knowing our plants and knowing where to plant them. We also use organic mulches and soil amendments. The health of a plant is dependent on the soil in which it lives, so we take care to ensure our plants are installed to give them the best possible start in a long and happy life.

RENOVATION
The Cultivated Gardeners love renovating gardens. It is what we do best! In fact, the minute we walk onto your site, we are analyzing your plants: their locations, health, colour, vigour, etc. Just try to stop us.

MAINTENANCE
The Cultivated Gardeners can keep your garden in top condition with regular maintenance of lawn mowing, edging and trimming. We use organic mulches and soil amendments to nourish your lawn and plants and naturally keep weeds down.

Our Philosophy
WHY GARDEN ORGANICALLY?

We have been gardening for a combined total of 35+ years. Like many, we started with the standard practices of professional gardeners, using synthetic fertilizers on a scheduled basis, and pesticides when necessary. We noticed that the pesticides had to reapplied regularly and did not stop the pests. The chemical fertilizers had to be used with utmost care to avoid burning plants. It only made sense to learn how to garden without subjecting our customers, their gardens, and ourselves to toxic pesticides. Getting rid of the chemical fertilizers was a natural next step.

What we notice now is our gardens are healthy and happy, and actually less work. Regular compost mulch feeds the plants and lessens the dreaded weeding. Leaving leaves on the beds stops compaction from wind and rain. Both of these mulches help the soil retain moisture.

Following the mantra, “Right plant, right place,” also reduces the need for pruning, which in turn reduces stress and subsequent disease. Once again, we eliminate the need for pesticides by knowing our plants and where to plant them.

This all sounds like common sense, doesn’t it? So why wouldn’t we garden organically?
